A high-accuracy framework for phase-field fracture interface reconstructions with application to Stokes fluid-filled fracture surrounded by an elastic medium

چکیده

This work considers a Stokes flow in deformable fracture interacting with linear elastic medium. To this end, we employ phase-field model to approximate the crack dynamics. Phase-field methods belong interface-capturing approaches which interface is only given by smeared zone. For multi-domain problems, accuracy of coupling conditions is, however, utmost importance. Here, interface-tracking are preferred, since resolved on mesh edges up discretisation errors, but it does not depend length scale parameter some The key objective construct robust framework that computes first path via method (interface-capturing) and then an reconstruction. We discuss several reconstruct Eulerian description open domain. includes unfitted where level-set constructed approach geometry re-meshed. Using reconstructed domain, can compute fluid–structure interaction problem between fluid solid. With explicit reconstruction two domains, use Arbitrary-Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) for resulting (FSI) problem. Our algorithmic procedure realised one final numerical algorithm implementation. substantiate our using examples based Sneddon’s benchmark corresponding extensions fluid-filled regimes.

Elastic interface waves along a fracture

Non-welded interfaces can be treated as a displacement discontinuity characterized by elastic stiffnesses. Applying this boundary condition to a generalized Rayleigh wave, it is shown that a fast and a slow dispersive wave can propagate along the fracture, even when the seismic properties of the rock on each side are identical.

A Phase-Field Method for Propagating Fluid-Filled Fractures Coupled to a Surrounding Porous Medium

The recently introduced phase-field approach for pressurized fractures in a porous medium offers various attractive computational features for numerical simulations of cracks such as joining, branching, and non-planar propagation in possibly heterogeneous media. In this study, the pressurized phase-field framework is extended to fluid-filled fractures in which the pressure is computed from a ge...

Categorical fracture orientation modeling: applied to an Iranian oil field

Fracture orientation is a prominent factor in determining the reservoir fluid flow direction in a formation because fractures are the major paths through which fluid flow occurs. Hence, a true modeling of orientation leads to a reliable prediction of fluid flow. Traditionally, various distributions are used for orientation modeling in fracture networks. Although they offer a fairly suitable est...

Cement-Implant Interface Fracture Failure by Crack Initiation Due to Interface Cavity Stress Concentration

Nowadays total joint replacements are widely used in the world, so in average 800,000 joint surgeries are done yearly only in Europe and North America. However implant loosening is and remains as the major issue of all implant failures and therefore causes revision surgery procedures. Studies and experiments have identified poor fixation of implants most likely is the main cause of long term im...
